Improving Rule of Law in Pakistan: Reflection & Way Forward

SAFWCO in collaboration with Oxfam GB conducted a Provincial Consultative Conference on “Improving Rule of Law in Pakistan: Reflection & Way Forward” on 22nd March, 2022 at Movenpick, Hotel, Karachi.

Mr. Zulifqar Shah, Member Sindh Human Rights Commission Moderated the conference.

Mr. Suleman G. Abro, Founder & Co- President SAFWCO gave the welcome speech and shared the objectives of the conference.

Ms. Asma Kiran, head of governance & Economic Justice Pillar, Oxfam GB in Pakistan shared the overview of the ARC Project.

Barrister Pir Mujeeb ul Haq, Chairman, Standing Committee on Law and Parliamentary Affairs in Sindh Assembly and Advocate Ali Pal, Founder, Sindh Human Rights defender Network discussed the options and issues in brining legal Aid Mechanisms at grassroots particularly for vulnerable groups.

Mr. Shargil Kharil, Deputy Inspector General, Sindh Police and Ms. Mangla Sharma, Member Provincial Assembly Sindh focused on challenges faced by religious minorities and other marginalized groups in accessing justice and how to break these barriers.

Ms. Anjum Iqbal Jumani, Secretary Women Development Department, Government of Sindh, Ms. Suhai Aziz, Senior Superintendent, Sindh Police and Mr. Jami Chandio, Social Scientist & ARC Project expert  gave the recommendations of a recent study on “Women participation in improving rule of law in Sindh.”

Ms. Shahla Raza, Minister Women Development Department, Government of Sindh was the Chief Guest in the conference. 

Shields were distributed among the speakers and Justice (R) Majida Razvi, Chairperson SHRC also received the appreciation Shield on account of recognition of her active participation in improving citizens access to justice.

Ms. Fareeda Tahir, P.R.O SHRC also attended the conference. 

At the end of the conference Justice (R) Majida Razvi, Chairperson SHRC gave the closing remarks and vote of thanks was given by Ms. Asma Kiran, head of governance & Economic Justice Pillar, Oxfam GB in Pakistan.
