Legal Aid is Central to righting wrongs and rectifying injustices
As per its mandate enshrined in Section 4 of Sindh Protection of Human Rights Act, 2011, the Chairperson SHRC Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho visited District Jail Khairpur, on Thursday 11th May, 2023.
The major agenda of Chairperson Sindh Human Rights Commission visit to District Jail was to identify jail inmates in need of legal aid and Assistance.
During the visit, team of lawyers from Legal Aid Society (LAS) and Pakistan Legal United Society (PLUS) accompanied the Chairperson wherein the cases of needy inmates were instantly referred to the PLUS and LAS teams for further process.
Besides the issue of legal aid, the Chairperson also inspected the living conditions of the inmates and expressed his partial satisfaction on the extent of services being provided in the District Jail Khairpur and called the authorities for further improvement in Fundamental Services to inmates like better infrastructure, health, education, food and vocational trainings etc.
