Chairperson and Member (SHRC) visited Central Jail, Hyderabad.

District Legal Empowerment Committee should be activated in the Jails.

Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, the Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, and Justice (F) Arshad Noor Khan, Member Judicial-I SHRC, recently visited the Central Jail in Hyderabad. The jail currently houses 2015 inmates, with 706 under trial.

The Chairperson stressed the importance of activating the District Legal Empowerment Committee, which is currently not functional,During their visit, Mr. Detho personally met with every inmate to inquire about their needs and referred some cases to the Legal Aid Office (Committee for the Welfare of Prisoners) to ensure that inmates receive legal assistance and support.

This visit highlights the importance of continued efforts toward human rights, jail reform, legal aid, and inmate rehabilitation. Such visits help prevent human rights violations, including torture and inhuman treatment. Mr. Detho also delivered a motivational speech to the prisoners and staff.

We believe that every individual deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their circumstances. Let us work together to uphold human rights and ensure that inmates receive the support they need to reintegrate into society.
