Empowering Women and Youth: A Step Towards Inclusive Democracy.

JAZBA Forum recently had a productive lobbying meeting at the SHRC office to advocate for increased representation of women and youth in political parties' manifestos and their support to contest the general elections in Sindh. This initiative aims to empower women and girls with democratic values, enhance their participation in local government systems and prevent gender-based violence through engagement with young people.

During the meeting, Forum members discussed the significance of mobilizing political parties in Pakistan to revise their manifestos in favor of women's political partnership and leadership. By doing so, we can create a more inclusive and equitable political landscape.

Chairperson SHRC, Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, shed light on various rights of women such as the right to property, the right to vote, civil and political, inheritance, and political empowerment.

Mr. Detho suggested conducting a detailed analysis of political parties’ manifestos to understand their stance on women's empowerment. The findings should be compiled into a separate briefing paper for each manifesto.

Furthermore, Mr. Detho emphasized the importance of referring to the Election Commission Act 2017 and the Sindh Local Government Act, 2013. These acts serve as guiding principles for electoral processes and local governance, ensuring that the voices of marginalized groups, including women and minorities, are adequately represented. Inclusivity through the implementation of a minority quota within political parties was also highlighted as a crucial step towards building a fair and representative political system.

Together, let's work towards a future where women and youth have equal opportunities to participate in decision-making processes and shape the political landscape of Sindh. By striving for inclusive democracy, we can build a stronger, more vibrant society that truly reflects the diverse aspirations and needs of all its citizens.
