Justice (Retired) Arshad Noor Khan, Member Judicial-I of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, paid a visit to the Women's Jail in Karachi, accompanied by Barrister Rida Tahir (Law Consultant), Zaheer Hussain, and Talha Ali, from SHRC along with the Legal Aid Office (Committee for the Welfare of Prisoners) and Pakistan Legal United Society members.

The primary objective of this visit was to make recommendations aimed at enhancing the administrative affairs of the prison system and addressing the challenges faced by incarcerated women.

During the visit, DIG Jail Ms. Syeda Shiba Shah provided a comprehensive briefing on the prison's operations. Furthermore, the delegation conducted a thorough assessment of the facilities available within the prison, which included a school, art class, computer lab, beauty salon, sewing center, and various other sections catering to the needs of female inmates. It's important to note that the jail has the capacity to house 250 inmates, with 154 currently in residence.

As a result of their discussions with the female prisoners, a list was compiled and subsequently handed over to the Legal Aid Society, outlining the eligible women in need of legal assistance. This initiative aims to provide support and legal aid to deserving women prisoners.

سندھ ہیومن رائٹس کمیشن کے جوڈیشل میمبر جسٹس ریٹائرڈ ارشد نور خان کا وومین جیل کراچی کا دورہ۔

بیریسٹر ردا طاہر، ظہیر حسین اور طلحہ شاہ کے علاؤہ لیگل ایڈ سوسائٹی اور پاکستان لیگل یونائیٹڈ سوسائٹی کے میمبران بھی جوڈیشل میمبر کے ہمراہ دورے میں شامل تھے۔

دورے کا مقصد جیل میں قید خواتین کو درپیش مسائل کا سدباب کرکے انتظامی امور کی بہتری کو یقینی بنانے کے لیے سفارشات پیش کرنا تھا۔

ڈی آئی جی جیل سیدہ شیبا شاہ نے جیل معاملات پہ تفصیلی بریفننگ دی، بعد ازاں خواتین قیدیوں کے لئے موجود اسکول، آرٹ کلاس، کمپیوٹر لیب، بیوٹی سیلون، سلائی سینٹر اور دیگر مختلف سیکشنز کا تفصیلی دورہ کرکے فراہم کی گئی سہولیات کا جائزہ لیا گیا۔ جیل میں 250 قیدیوں کی گنجائش ہے جہاں 154 قیدیوں کو رکھا گیا ہے۔

دورے کے دوران خواتین قیدیوں سے مفصل گفتگو کرکے مستحق خواتین کو قانونی مدد فراہمی کے لیے لسٹ بناکر لیگل ایڈ سوسائٹی کے حوالے کی گئی۔
