M. Aslam Shaikh, Member Judicial-II of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, visited the NARA Jail in Hyderabad

M. Aslam Shaikh, Member Judicial-II of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, led a visit to the NARA Jail in Hyderabad along with Mr. Sarfaraz Jamali, Superintendent, Complaints and Inquires (SHRC) and was joined by the legal team from Pakistan Legal United Society & Legal Aid Office (Committee for the Welfare of Prisoners).

The inspection revealed that the barracks within NARA Jail were in a state of disrepair. The aging infrastructure had significantly deteriorated, jeopardizing the safety and well-being of inmates.

It became evident that there was an urgent need for the complete reconstruction of the barracks. Their current condition not only posed a threat to the structural integrity but also compromised the living conditions and safety of the detainees.

The deteriorated barracks exacerbated the issue of overcrowding within the jail. This overcrowding could lead to a host of problems, including sanitation issues and heightened tensions among inmates.
