Chairperson (SHRC) Visited District Prison & Correctional Facility in Dadu

In a significant move towards ensuring the protection of human rights, Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho the Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) along-with Mr. Fayaz Rahujo, Deputy Commissioner of District Dadu, undertook a crucial visit to the District Prison & Correctional Facility in Dadu.

During the visit, a constructive meeting was held with members of the oversight committee, with a warm welcome extended by Mr. Imtiaz Soomro. Mr. Soomro provided a comprehensive presentation shedding light on the current situation within the correctional facility. Notably, there are no convicted prisoners in the jail, but it houses a total of 287 undertrial prisoners (UTPs) across 10 cells, 9 barracks, and 8 well-maintained hospital beds.

However, addressing the existing needs, the oversight committee emphasized the requirement for the construction of 2 additional barracks. They also expressed the necessity for sanitary workers and teachers to enhance the overall well-being and rehabilitation of the inmates.

In response, Mr. Detho, Chairperson, assured the committee that their concerns would be raised with the DIG prison, and he directed the oversight committee to actively engage in resolving these issues on behalf of the inmates. The commitment to jail development and improving conditions was reaffirmed during this visit.

The SHRC remains dedicated to advocating for the protection of human rights and will continue to collaborate with local authorities to address issues within correctional facilities. Together.
