SSDO Pakistan in collaboration with Sindh Human Rights Commission organized the Interactive Session of Stakeholders Working Group of Sindh with US Experts on Combatting Trafficking in Persons & Bonded Labor of women and girls in Sindh, Pakistan. The session was graced by parliamentarians, law enforcement agencies, government departments, National & Provincial Human Rights Commissions, academia, media and civil society.

The speakers commended SSDO's and SHRC's efforts and stressed the importance of everyone playing a role in preventing human trafficking. Various sessions focused on amplifying women's voices, citizen involvement, and strengthening the legal framework. The session highlighted the progress made, challenges faced, and the way forward in implementing the legal framework on Trafficking in Persons (TIP) in Sindh, Pakistan.

In his address, Chairperson Sindh Human Rights Commission Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho highlighted the grim reality of human trafficking, with a particular focus on the vulnerability of women and children. He emphasized the urgent need for heightened awareness regarding the main causes of trafficking: human organ sale, sexual slavery, and child labor.

Mr. Detho also stressed the importance of implementing existing laws like the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act and The Sindh Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act. Furthermore, he called for increased sensitization efforts within government departments, especially among law enforcement agencies like the Police, to effectively combat trafficking and uphold the constitutional rights outlined in Article 11 of Pakistan’s Constitution.

Barrister Rida Tahir, Consultant at Sindh Human Rights Commission steered the entire program with grace and expertise. Her comprehensive explanation of the legal framework surrounding the issue of Trafficking in Persons and Bonded Labour provided invaluable insights for all participants.

With precision and clarity, Barrister Tahir delivered an overview of the topic, shedding light on its complexities and nuances. Her dedication to upholding justice and advocating for human rights was evident throughout the event.
