Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), attended the 7th Meeting of the Provincial Task Force on Human Rights, chaired by Mr. Rajvir Singh Soda, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Human Rights, along with Mr. Khalid Chachar, Secretary of the Human Rights Department, Government of Sindh. The meeting was attended by representatives from various government departments.
During the meeting, Mr. Detho apprised the forum of key initiatives undertaken by SHRC under the Sindh Human Rights Policy 2023–2027. He highlighted the activation of District Peace Committees in Umerkot, Hyderabad, and Sukkur, and informed the participants about the development of a manual for Peace Committee members. He further shared that SHRC is seeking donor partnerships to initiate training programs for these committees.
Mr. Detho also presented SHRC’s youth training manual on Countering Violent Extremism and emphasized the Commission’s aim to incorporate this manual into university curricula across Sindh. Additionally, he briefed the forum on SHRC’s recommendation to the Government for an amendment in the Pakistan Penal Code to criminalize child domestic labor and urged the Chair and representatives of the Home Department to take this recommendation forward.
Moreover, Mr. Detho provided his input on the draft Rules of the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act, underlining the need for effective implementation mechanisms and coordination among relevant departments.
