Awareness Session on UDHR & Fundamental Rights Held at Hamdard University

The Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) participated in an impactful awareness session titled *"Empowering Students: Awareness on UDHR & Fundamental Rights"* at Hamdard University, Karachi. Organized by the Human Rights Department, Government of Sindh, the session aimed to promote a culture of human rights through youth engagement and education.

Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson SHRC, delivered a keynote address highlighting the pivotal role of students in building a human rights-respecting society. He underscored the importance of understanding the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the constitutional guarantees of dignity, freedom, and equality in Pakistan. Mr. Detho urged students to become informed and active citizens who advocate for the rights of all, particularly the vulnerable and marginalized.

Barrister Rida Tahir, Business & Human Rights Member of SHRC, also addressed the gathering, stressing the relevance of international frameworks like the UDHR and the Geneva Conventions, alongside Pakistan’s Constitution. She encouraged students to uphold human dignity, justice, and peace in both their personal and professional lives.

The session featured interactive discussions, thought-provoking student questions, and a call to integrate human rights education into academic and community settings.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Rajvir Singh Sodha, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Sindh for Human Rights, lauded the Human Rights Department and SHRC for fostering meaningful human rights dialogue with youth. He praised the active participation of students and reaffirmed the Sindh Government’s commitment to advancing equality, justice, and dignity across the province.
