SHRC Chairperson and Judicial Member Visit Kandhkot Judicial Lockup to Assess Conditions

The Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, along with Judicial Member Mr. Mir Safdar Talpur, visited the Judicial Lockup in Kandhkot District to assess detention conditions and compliance with human rights standards.

During the visit, only three inmates were present. The premises were orderly, and staff were on duty. Assistant Commissioner Mr. Ali Raza Shah and Jailor Mr. Hizbullah Malik accompanied the delegation.

A major concern noted was the complete absence of electricity in the lockup, raising serious issues regarding ventilation, lighting, and detainee dignity.

The delegation recommended installing a solar power system for a sustainable electricity supply. Mr. Ali Raza Shah and Mr. Hizbullah Malik supported this proposal and agreed to take action.

The visit concluded that despite satisfactory staff performance and low detainee numbers, the lack of electricity urgently needs attention. The Sindh Human Rights Commission urges prompt action to uphold detainees' rights and dignity in line with national and international human rights obligations.
