On 14th May 2025, Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson, and Mr. Mir Safdar Talpur, Judicial Member, Sindh Human Rights Commission, visited Taluka Headquarter Hospital (THQ), Kandhkot, to assess healthcare facilities and public health rights.
They were received by Mr. Ali Raza Shah, Assistant Commissioner, Kandhkot, Dr. Aijaz Ali Shah, District Health Officer, and Dr. Shahnawaz Dahani, Medical Superintendent. The delegation was briefed and inspected various departments.
The Commission noted a critical shortage of specialist doctors and overcrowded OPD conditions, with patients sitting on the floor due to inadequate seating—highlighting serious service gaps. Basic amenities like clean drinking water were lacking. Sanitation was poor, waste management inadequate, and infrastructure deteriorated. There was also a shortage of furniture, equipment, and medicines.
The Chairperson and Judicial Member recommended urgent recruitment of specialists, improved sanitation, better infrastructure, and adequate medical supplies to meet healthcare standards.
The Assistant Commissioner, DHO, and Medical Superintendent acknowledged the issues and assured the Commission of corrective action and communication with higher authorities.
This visit reflects SHRC’s commitment to protecting health rights. The Commission will continue to engage with local authorities and monitor progress on the recommended reforms.
