SHRC Chairperson Visits Taluka Hospital Lakhi Ghulam Shah to Review Healthcare and Patients’ Rights

SHRC Chairperson Visits Taluka Hospital Lakhi Ghulam Shah to Review Healthcare and Patients’ Rights

Chairperson Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, along with Judicial Member Mr. Mir Safdar Talpur and the SHRC team, visited Taluka Hospital Lakhi Ghulam Shah, District Shikarpur, to assess healthcare services and patients’ rights. They were received by Medical Superintendent Dr. Khadim Hussain Bhatti, who briefed them on the hospital’s functioning and challenges.

Despite extreme heat (51°C), the Chairperson found patients in distress due to a complete power outage in wards. Many relied on handmade fans, with poor ventilation worsening conditions. The hospital was visibly unclean, and there was no provision of clean drinking water for patients and attendants.

The Chairperson also observed a severe shortage of specialist doctors, including no radiologist, limited paramedical staff, and inadequate supplies of essential medicines. The hospital’s infrastructure was found unfit for effective healthcare delivery.

Mr. Detho expressed serious concern over the situation, urging urgent reforms. He recommended immediate solar energy installation and assured that SHRC would escalate the issue to higher authorities for swift recruitment of required staff. He reaffirmed SHRC’s commitment to securing quality healthcare for the residents of Lakhi Ghulam Shah.
