The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), under the GRASP project, recently organized a series of seminars focused on promoting sustainable ecosystems for women entrepreneurs and empowering women in the agriculture sector, particularly in horticulture and livestock value chains. These seminars aimed to highlight the critical role women play in driving economic growth within rural communities and to identify systemic barriers they face. One of the key sessions featured Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, who spoke on the topic “The Role of Land and Property Rights in Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Pakistan.” In his address, Mr. Detho emphasized that secure access to land and property is fundamental to women’s economic empowerment. He underscored that land ownership not only enhances women’s decision-making power within households and communities but also strengthens their position in agricultural and business ventures.
Barrister Rida Tahir, Member (Business & Human Rights) SHRC, also shared her views on empowering women entrepreneurs. She highlighted the importance of integrating human rights principles into business practices and emphasized the need to create an enabling environment where women can thrive as entrepreneurs. She called for inclusive policies, access to finance, and institutional support to overcome the structural barriers faced by women, particularly in rural and agricultural settings. The event served as a important platform to reaffirm the commitment to gender equality, inclusive development, and the advancement of women’s rights in Pakistan.
