SHRC Trains Jacobabad Police on Human Rights Laws for Women and Children

The Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) organized a one-day training titled “Capacity Building of Police Officials in Human Rights Education” in Jacobabad on May 30, 2025. The focus was on recent human rights laws, especially those concerning women and children.

Over 30 police officials from Jacobabad, including SHOs, SIOs, IOs, SIs, ASIs, and WHCs, took part. The goal was to improve their legal understanding and ability to handle human rights cases.

Barrister Aashir Masood Mahar led sessions on the Juvenile Justice System Act, 2018; relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (300–324, 328, 328A); the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Act, 2021; and laws on rape and child abuse. He focused on the practical applications of these laws in the field.

Mr. Qamaruddin Mahar, Provincial Director (PDSP), praised the officers’ dedication and encouraged them to maintain ethical and honest policing practices.

Advocate Mohsin Shaikh conducted an engaging question-and-answer session, which saw active participation and discussion among the attendees.
Advocate Zubeda Jakhrani delivered a session on “Harassment at the Workplace” and addressed issues related to domestic violence. She highlighted legal remedies and emphasized the role of law enforcement in supporting victims.

Renowned actor, human rights activist, and SHRC Member Mr. Ayub Khoso attended the training as Chief Guest. He commended SHRC’s ongoing work in legal awareness and urged the need for meaningful police reforms. He emphasized that law enforcement should function independently, with sincerity and integrity.

At the end of the event, certificates were distributed among all participants. A group photo session and lunch followed the training.

The training reflects SHRC’s continued efforts to build the capacity of law enforcement and promote awareness of human rights laws.
