Empowering Persons with Disabilities through Inclusive Governance
On May 22, 2025, the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) participated in a significant provincial consultation on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). SHRC Chairperson Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho addressed the gathering, highlighting the Commission’s ongoing efforts to protect and promote the rights of persons with disabilities. He emphasized the need for a holistic, rights-based approach to ensure their full inclusion in mainstream governance, particularly in areas such as accessibility, education, and employment.
Mr. Rajvir Singh Sodha, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Human Rights, also spoke at the event. He stressed the importance of reforming governance structures to foster a disability-friendly environment and ensure effective implementation of the UNCRPD in Sindh.
The SHRC reaffirmed its commitment to addressing complaints and challenges faced by persons with disabilities and advocating for their equal participation in all aspects of life.
